This is the same for me how i feel about my Helios vs the Friedman, Friedmans more polished Bogner more raw both awesome id give the edge to Friedman tho for the master volume taper and the loops but both killer amps man.

Had both and still have the Helios. NAD X2: Friedman BE-50 deluxe, Bogner Ecstacy. It's raw with an edgy high end bite. I cannot justify the gear that I have in the slightest. But my amp knowledge is limited. I'm late to the party but wanted to give my 2 cents. LOL. BUT the Helios has a real good pick response so it feels like you have enough gain. I guess that's how he keeps it less saturated than the Friedman stuff. I grew tired of the Quickrods, but those are definitely pretty pissed sounding. My Bogner collection is really starting to take shape haha. The 100 seems a bit more opened up than the 50, but the 50 is … but for me JJ wins for those reasons. Doesn't have a massive low end but it's pretty tight and punchy. That's a lot. Doesn't have a massive low end but it's pretty tight and punchy. Really please with both so far. More gain and compression in 80s mode. Calling all owners, any settings you’ve settled on? For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Hows it at low volumes like bedroom levels? I have been contemplating getting another amp and have a few on the short list. Nothing I’ve played beats the low volume ease of taper on a Friedman, It started with a Crate combo and a grunge pedal. I liked my Helios 50 but it could not get heavy enough for my taste (AIC, Mastodon, etc). I thought I'd enjoy boosting the front, but tbh, the 80s mode and the "pre eq" switch sound better than even my best boost pedals, which is a first for me. The Helios 100 also has the 30 watt option. Re: Damn, I think I have Bogner Helios GAS! Very open in 70s mode but not a ton of gain. I haven't tried the Yeti, but I think it's probably a little less brutal than the Chupacabra from the clips I've heard. Crazy statement. I didn't notice any clean up difference when I tested both amps out, but I have made an improvement with an Amperex NOS in V1, but my pickups are low output strat pickups and the clean in 70's mode is pristine in the hot input so probably not a good guy to ask. That Chupacabra does sound pissed. Its a hobby I guess and love to play at home, record and I'm occasionally asked to fill in for bands. I’m not good at reviews so take this with a grain of salt. More gain and compression in 80s mode. Cool, thanks y'all. I had the BE and Helios at the same time. Might put a Chup there too. Its a fantastic amp, enjoy! I've always heard the Helios 100 is tighter and has a much bigger bottom end than the Helios 50. It has a huge number of tonal options for a turret board build. Done? But there is a volume drop when going to 80's which is a good indicator that its diodes being placed into the circuit. I'll cross it off my list then lol, It seems to me that by "aggressive", what you really mean is how heavy or saturated can the Helios get compared to the Chupacabra. But I think of the Helios as a very aggressive sounding amp in it's own right, but not in a metal sort of way. If you like them both, choose the amp with better value. HELIOS.

Re: Bogner Helios or Friedman BE/JJ? With some hot humbuckers you can get some pretty saturated gain. Both are great amps and IMO the best of the best for the Marshall tone I have in my head. And looks like Rheinhold has addressed my issues stated earlier in thread. Bogner is $3,099 and the Friedman is $3,699. That said the JJ is a great amp too, I just liked the rawness and overall tone a little more from the Bog. Tough decision since they all are great amps. Post by RAR » Fri Aug 28, 2015 6:38 pm So here is my 2 week review on the Helios 100, number 57! Exactly.

The Helios is basically the Brown Eye channel (with very minor adjustments) with a 3 way bright and SAT switch (70s/80s switch). Re: NAD- Bogner Helios 100 It's doesn't quite get there. Just GASSING but if you had to choose between these 2 which you would prefer?

bogner helios 50 vs 100

Unless you have more money than brains, I'd pass. I really like it. To celebrate our 25th year anniversary Bogner Amplification releases the HELIOS amplifiers. It looks like you're new here. I have a custom made high gainer that sounds a little better for the higher gain stuff so I parted with the JJ but the Helios has some tones that are total perfection for me. The Helios is warmer so maybe the Chupacabra gets the grind a bit easier. If you're an old-school Marshall guy [get a Marshall] the Bogner is a pallete of old/new/modded Marshall tones. This is the same for me how i feel about my Helios vs the Friedman, Friedmans more polished Bogner more raw both awesome id give the edge to Friedman tho for the master volume taper and the loops but both killer amps man. I’ve played this amp every day since getting it. I always warn everyone off the Ecstasy.

I have never experimented with tubes in the Helios 100, but I wouldn't imagine it would make as much difference as in the 50. You can also get it more vintage like the smallbox with gain cut in middle and up the mids brilliant amp, This Friedman master volume really is great.

Love my Ecstasy 20th. Loving the colour of the Bogner suitably mental!

JavaScript is disabled. Helios gets plenty aggressive, with a boost. I played the Helios 50 which I was very interested in buying, but after going through the whole Friedman phase and then finally discovering Morris amps, I wasn't that taken away by the Helios. NAD X2: Friedman BE-50 deluxe, Bogner Ecstacy.

You're either that guy or the other, not both. Congrats! Wasn't pristine clean by any means but good enough for stuff I was doing. What did you like better about the 50 watt version? But that person loved old Marshall’s that did the same thing (less). The Helios 100 also has the 30 watt option.

Kept the BE.

I don't ever recall having a song where i needed the clean channel and the dirty channel to be switched mid song. Bogner did 1 production run of them last year, stopped, then did the Helios it seems and only about 2 weeks ago they restarted production again. When I had Helios 50, ran into hot input 70s mode and was able to get my "clean" sound by switching channels & rolling back guitar volume.
